About Us

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center houses the Jail Industries Program. Part of that program is the Engraving and Sign Shop. This program, which is now self-sufficient, is highly regarded in the State of California.
Although sales and profit are necessary in order to have a self-sufficient program; the next important part of this program is the inmates.
The female inmates working in the shop learn a possible new trade but most important they learn work ethic, self-esteem, self-confidence and satisfaction of completing a quality piece of work. If an inmate wants to work in the shop but has yet to acquire a diploma, they must sign up with the Elk Grove Adult Education Program to take the GED classes. We will then have the inmate work part time if necessary. There are usually 30 to 40 inmates participating within the year. We provide the inmates with a certificate of completion outlining the level of competency each has achieved upon their release.
